Well, I am not sure how many of you Inuyasha fans know that Kirara, who is Sango’s youkai escort, actually has a great resemblance to the nekomata, a Japanese mythological creature. However, Kirara does not exhibit the traditional behavior of the nekomata and abstains from carrion-eating and necromancy.
“Kirara,” as the name appears in Inuyasha, is a word which when pronounced imitates the sound of the sparkling of a stone, predominantly mica. In addition, the meaning of the word Shippou in the Japanese language is Seven Treasures. Moreover, “Miroku”, when translated into Japanese means Maitreya, who according to Buddhist tradition is the forthcoming joyful Buddha.

An episodes of the Inuyasha TV show, titled Chokyuukai and the Plundered Brides, features three creatures from a famous work of Chinese literature, named Journey to the West. This work tells the tale of a Buddhist monk’s pilgrimage to India and has also been made into an animated series.
Have you ever wondered why Inuyasha is attired as he is? Well, that is because his unique red dress is made from the fur of the fire rat. This is one of the treasures sought in Taketori Monogatari, a well-liked 10th century folktale of Japan.
Now let’s come to the Staff of Heads, which is referred to as the nintoujou in Inuyasha TV Show and is carried by Jaken, who is Sesshoumaru’s retainer. It is an actual work of art that is put on show at Japan’s Kamakura Museum.
Even though the manga series of Inuyasha contained a fair amount of nudity, the animated series cut down the same to a great extent and never featured anything revealing.
