Inuyasha was originally a Japanese comic strip which was written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi. It was later converted into an animated series which premiered on the Cartoon Network on 31st August 2002. The series revolves around a modern day girl Kagome Higurashoi who lives near the ancient Higure Shrine. She is unaware of the fact that she is the reincarnation of priestess Kikyo and also in possession of the Jewel of Four Souls. She is unaware of the jewel’s powers and the fact that in her previous life she died protecting it from falling into evil hands.

One day she comes across a primeval well near her home and through it is unexpectedly transported back in time to an era when Japan was inhabited by demons. There she learns about her previous life and Inuyasha who is half demon half human. She also learns that she had sealed him into a Goshinboku tree with a sacred arrow as he was trying to take away the jewel from her. When a demon centipede attacks them, Kagome is forced to release Inuyasha so that he can kill the demon. However, after killing the demon, Inuyasha once again tries to snatch the jewel of Four Souls from Kagome. He is prevented in his efforts by Kaede who places a necklace of magical beads on Inuyasha so he can be dominated by Kagome. However, the jewel attracts many other demons including Naraku who wants to possess the jewel for fulfilling his own evil desires. In a fight to save the jewel, Kagome accidentally shoots it with the sacred arrow which breaks it up into thousands of pieces.

The pieces are scattered all over Japan and Kagome and Inuyasha join forces and start the mission to find and collect all the pieces. They are joined in this mission by Shippo who is a small fox demon, Miroku who is a cursed monk and Sango who is the only demon slayer left alive. They also come across many friends and foes in their journey including Inuyasha’s pure demon brother Sesshomaru, Naraku the villain who wants to possess the sacred jewel and Koga the wolf demon who is in love with Kagome. The series was aired for seven successful seasons with the final episode of the last season aired on 23rd December 2006.
